Today was fantastic! We heard from Linda Reeves, co-founder of the United Women's Forum.
She talked to us about her beginnings in California with the School Board and schools implementing new sex education programs. When she moved to Davis County, Utah she found similar things going on in the local school district. Her friend Deborah Poulsen wanted to "do something" so, they got together to stay informed and get involved. They hit the ground running and recruited several other women to come and help. Many of these women are still UWF Members today. In 2008, Linda served a mission in Southern California during the Prop 8 ballot Initiative however, as Mission Representatives for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, they were not allowed to be involved.
She talked about how each of us can be involved and make a difference. "It's like a Volcano, it just erupts into goodness." She felt like the Spirit prompted and guided her and Deborah in forming UWF. Many of the previous Presidents joined with Linda and confirmed that they all felt a special call to get involved and make a difference. "You don't know about the ripple affect and the influence you can have not just on the community, but on your children and your grandchildren." said Linda. "You can make a difference."
